Hrvatsko Zagorje is home to more than 50 castles, some of which have their own private parks. Trakošćan is certainly one of the most beautiful castles in Croatia and a highlight of the trip. It is a 13th century hilltop castle and has been renovated in the neo-Gothic style in 1850s. Explore the museum inside, and imagine how splendid it must have been to live in the castle. Enjoy a walk in the park with a lake below the castle. Your next stop will be in the town of Varaždin, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Croatia, a Baroque city known for its wonderful 12th century old town fort. Varaždin is mainland Croatia's best preserved Habsburg-era town.
